Learn how to set custom ringtones and notifications on the BlackBerry Q10.

Notifications
To change the notification sounds, follow these steps:
Turn on master Notification setting
- From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- For a Notification to sound, tap Mode to open the drop-down menu and then tap one of the following options:
- Normal
- Phone Calls only. If you select Phone Calls Only, Notifications will only sound for phone calls even if a Notification is turned on for a Notification category further down the screen (for example, Text Messages).
Note: If you select 'Silent, All alerts off, or Vibrate only,' then the desired Notification will not sound. This is true even if you turn on Notifications for a Notification category further down the screen (for example, Text Messages).
- If necessary, below the Mode drop-down menu, tap the Sound Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.
- Touch the Sound Slider and set to the desired volume level.
Turn on Notifications for a category
- Swipe up to move further down the screen. Under 'Notifications / Alerts,' tap the desired category (for example, Text Messages).
- If necessary, tap the Sound Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.
- Tap Tone.
- Tap the desired tone or else tap Browse music to select one of your music or sound files.
- Tap the Back < icon and repeat as desired for other categories (for example, Email Messages).
Ringtones
To change the ringtone, follow these steps:
Ringtone for all calls
- From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- For the ringtone to sound, tap Mode and then tap either Normal, or Phone Calls Only.
Note: If you select Phone Calls Only, then notification tones will fail to sound for another category (for example, Text Messages), even if turned on inside the category. - If necessary, tap the Sound Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.
- Touch the Sound Slider and set to the desired volume level.
- Swipe up and tap Applications.
- Tap Phone.
- If necessary, tap the Sound Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.
- Tap Tone.
- Tap the desired tone or else tap Browse music to select on of your music or sound files.
Ringtone for calls from one contact
Note: You cannot assign a ringtone to contacts stored on the SIM card or Phone (device memory).
- Navigate to Home screen 1 and tap Contacts.
- If necessary, tap the Menu icon at bottom-left and then tap the account where the contact is stored.
- Tap the desired contact.
- Tap the Edit icon (pencil).
- Swipe up on the screen all the way to the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Ring Tone and Notifications.
- Tap the Phone Calls field.
- Swipe up on the menu and tap the desired tone.
Note: Music or sound files that you previously transferred automatically appear in the list (at the bottom).
Transfer music or sounds to use
Some devices require you to transfer music, sounds, or other audio files to the device in a certain way for it to be used for ringtones and notifications. To transfer these files, follow these steps:
- If necessary, download BlackBerry Link (See 'Drivers for computers')
- Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
- On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
- Click the Computer tab.
- Follow these steps to add the desired music or sound files to BlackBerry Link:
- Click the Settings icon and then click Libraries.
- Under 'Pick your desktop music source,' view the music source (for example, Windows Media Player).
- Add the desired music or sound files to the music source you identified in step 2. When finished, the files should appear in the My computer tab of BlackBerry link.
- Click the Settings icon again to arrive back at your music files.
- Navigate to the desired music or sound files.
- Right click on the file and then click Sync to > BlackBerry [xxxx] or else drag and drop the file onto the BlackBerry tab.
- When finished, safely disconnect the USB cable.
Mac
- If necessary, download BlackBerry Link (See: 'Drivers for computers').
- Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
- On your computer, open the BlackBerry Link application.
- If necessary, you need to add the desired music or sound files to iTunes so they will appear in the My computer tab of BlackBerry Link.
Note: If you have Automatic sync turned on, then the music file should automatically sync to your device. - Click the My computer tab. Navigate to the desired music file.
- Drag and drop the desired music files over the BlackBerry tab.
- When finished, safely disconnect the USB cable.
